Using I75 Vs I77 When Travelling to Florida From Michigan

Topic: I-75 or I-77?
Posted By: jayberg on 09/21/ten 04:02pm We have always traveled from Akron, OH to Port Charlotte via I-77 through the West Va. mountains, than I-95 south. Some have told u.s. it's an easier drive to get via I-75 through Cinci. to avoid he large mountains. Can anyone tell us if I-75 is indeed a meliorate way to go to the West Coast? The last couple of years nosotros've hit some hellish weather going through the Fancy Gap area in early Jauary.

Posted By: by-MIdirector on 09/21/ten 04:30pm We've traveled both going due south and returning north and loved going I-77. The ups and downs are about the same. I-77 seems to be a nicer road and less crazy drivers until you striking I-95 and information technology'due south a mad house.

Posted Past: skipnchar on 09/21/ten 04:31pm Both Interstate highways have the aforementioned grade standard of 06% then it shouldn't make any divergence at all.

Posted By: Goldbrick on 09/21/ten 06:07pm Frankly, I detest going through big metropolitan areas with Chicago and Atlanta being at the top of the listing. I77 is still my selection with the only problem being the first 20 miles on 195 going through South Carolina....hopefully its been repaved by at present.

You're correct about the crazy drivers, if fact far less traffic, and no-where virtually the amount of trucks equally compared to I-75. E'er hated going through Cinninati and Atlanta. Very few highly populated areas on 77. Might be a piffling more hilly through Virginia and W Virginia simply you tin can accept your eyes off the road long enough to bask the scenery without getting cut off. Love the fact there are not billboards every hundred feet as well.

Posted By: JJnLilly on 09/21/10 06:47pm We alive just of I77 in Light-green, OH and going all the way due west to pickup I75 is a long manner for a curt slide. In fact we merely came dorsum from Myrtle Embankment and 77 is a nice ride. The grades through WV are not bad and it is an piece of cake drive.

Posted By: jeb5 on 09/21/ten 07:27pm I75 except for Atlanta. WV Turnpike is a challenge, merely our new diesel might brand a deviation. I65 has less traffic, but is another 85 miles. Port Charlotte is where all the skilful Ohio people live in the winter!!!

Posted By: Big Katuna on 09/21/10 07:38pm No question in my listen; I-77 EXCEPT if at that place is bad weather predicted.

Hve you e'er gotten off I-26 at Orangeburg and drove down The states 301S and picked upwards I75 at Ocala?

Posted Past: PRT on 09/21/ten 08:05pm We are on the east coast so take 95 the bulk of the style - later on we visit a daughter in MD, but we selection up 295 around Jax and and then take 24/301 to 75 in Gainesville. And then it's a directly shot downwards to Tampa. Would work for you.
At present we have a daughter in Mt. Pleasant, SC (nigh Charleston,) and then she will go on the list coming due north. S nosotros effort to make time. I want to get there!!
We went through Atlanta last year on our mode home since my hubby wanted to ride The Tail of the Dragon and that was the way to go there. I detest Atlanta. How people live there westward/ that traffic is beyond me. We stayed overnight in Marietta - what a zoo.

Posted Past: Eycom on 09/21/ten 09:36pm If the west coast of FL is your destination, I-77 would be your most direct route. However, instead of taking I-26 over to I-95, I'd take I-xx West out of Columbia, SC towards Atlanta. About 50-sixty miles east of Atlanta, I'd have GA HWY 44 south towards Eatonton, GA. In Eatonton, pick up US HWY 129 to Macon, GA and I-75. That will requite yous a hour and a one-half or so break from Interstate driving, accept you lot on a pretty bulldoze through the Oconee National Woods, by-laissez passer Atlanta, and keep yous from crisscrossing darn about two states. Cheque it out. It may make sense. Rubber travels.

Posted By: jayberg on 09/22/ten 08:45am We've done I77 to I95 then across to Ocala 5 years in a row. You have to be on pinnacle of your game while on I-95; nosotros've had a couple close calls due to idiot drivers cutting us off and thinking we tin can stop 9,000#'s without running them over. Nosotros've had friends tell united states that I-75 was an easier bulldoze. We've hit Westward Va. during heavy fog, snow, water ice storm, and beutiful weather condition. Nosotros're just wondering if I-75 has as much water ice and snow issues that the West Va. mountains do?
Posted By: badbuckeye on 09/22/10 06:46pm Concluding year (due to conditions) we went down I77, over 26 to I95 and then Ocala to tampa. I77 can be twisty and hilly, merely nothing severe. There is a 7 mile colina (downhill going south) as you enter NC. Nosotros came back I75, went directly thru Atlanta around 10 am (non bad), to Cincinnati, Columbus, and East Ohio. Simply 1 3-4 mile hill at Jellico. Going back I77 is 100 miles closer, but you take battle the 7 mile hill.
Posted Past: JimK on 09/22/10 08:07pm We take been going from Parma, OH to Port Charlotte for eleven years pulling a 30' trailer. Nosotros definitely prefer I-75. The hills and curves of I-77 in West.Va. are too risky in case of snow. And, in that location are no tolls on I-75! According to AAA there are more facilities along I-75 - nutrient, fuel, etc. And, you avert all the crazies on I-95.
Atlanta is not a problem if you just avoid the blitz hours. Become right through - the bypass is worse than going through town.

Posted By: bstark on 09/23/x 06:47pm I 2d the vote for pulling directly through the center of Atlanta. We used to take the featherbed until missing it once and were quite surprised at how easy it was to just blaze on through without all of the trucks you contend with on the featherbed. Avoid the rush hours and you'll be fine.
Today is just the tomorrow yous worried nearly yesterday!

We did this concluding twelvemonth and it was very dainty, but slow. I would go to I95 and slug it out. Much faster. If you do 301 stop and see the Folsom Funnel in Folsom GA. Where all the east coast trains run through the east coast.

Nosotros are from Wooster and the all-time route is I-77 to I-26 to I-95. Even shorter if you are going to the west coast. Non a large fan of driving through Atlanta.

I saw from an onetime post of yours that last year you wintered at J-Mar in New Port Richey. Are y'all going there once again this twelvemonth? My mother is a year circular resident in that location. We were over there a few times. I took from your posts that you live in East Ohio. We are in Belmont county. Are yous shut? Gary

Posted By: routeforty on 09/29/ten 07:40pm Non sure of the lot number right at present, will have to look it up, but every bit y'all go in the main entrance she is on the left hand side of the park. We were going to head downwards to Fl sometime in Oct. but grandson's FB team is undefeated and have a adept gamble of making the playoffs, so we may stick around for that. If you desire to send me a PM maybe we can exchange telephone #s and I'll swing by when we go over to visit mom. Nosotros have a identify around Leesburg, upwards hither we are in the Barnesville expanse.
